Lophophora diffusa x Obregonia denegrii Timeline and procedure

Lophophora diffusa x Obregonia denegrii: Seed batch Od-Ld-1-S(1-50)

November 2, 2008: Each plant, Obregonia denegrii & Lophophora diffusa, showed 2 flowers that were just opening. I moved the plants to a new location away from other cacti. We bought 2 new paintbrushes for breeding these together; 1 for each plants pollen. We pollinated the 2 plants with each other.

November 16, 2008: Obregonia denegrii flowers are not detaching, a good sing fruit is developing! The Lophophora diffusa has developed 2 fruits, 1 was picked today with 50 seeds. The other fruit is too small to pick.

November 20, 2008: 30 seeds planted. This seed batch (50 seeds) will be given the ID #: Ld-Od-1-S##. The ## will be 1-50, each plant given its own number.

November 26, 2008: They are germinating and sprouting. We grafted one to Pereskiopsis last night. [Photo]

January 02, 2009: The ovary of of both the Obregonia flowers dried and produced nothing. Both ovaries of the L. diffusa, however, have produced viable seed. The previous graft has died, but new ones are going to be done soon. So far there have been 13/30 sprout.
